Advanced airway inservice/training last week and the week before, biannually, paramedics are required to train on emergency surgical cricothyrotomy, use of the transport ventilators, intubation methods, and performance of rapid sequence induction, in which powerful sedation and paralytic drugs may be needed to intubate a person who is critically ill or injured. Literally holding someone’s life in your hand, while moving down the road, trying to reach doctors and others to help save lives is serious business, but it can be taught in a positive and fun environment where people want to learn.
