Let’s talk every business owner's worst fear: Audits. Did you know that if you misreport your taxable income by more than 25% that it could trigger an additional 6 year audit for a total of 7? When an auditor reviews your books, they focus on three key areas:

Source documents
• Receipts, invoices, bank statements – all organized and easy to find

Third-party data
• Your numbers need to match W-2s, 1099s, mortgage interest statements, etc.

Deductions and credits
• Home office, vehicle expenses, meals & entertainment, depreciation – to make sure you're using your company funds for company purposes

A tidy chart of accounts makes life easier for everyone! I'm not trying to scare anyone, just telling it how it is. As an added resource comment CoA below and I’ll send our firm’s chart of accounts in CSV format so you can upload it straight into QuickBooks Online.
