Avoid These Traffic Traps
Every network has built in traffic traps and they push these saying they are great, but in the end you are just going to waste money. Don’t fall for these traps.
I am going to only talk about Facebook in this post.
1. Avoid daily budgets and instead choose Lifetime budgets.
2. Don’t let facebook auto place your ads. Isolate and test each placement because rarely do all placements work effectively.
3. Don’t lump all devices into the same ad. Separate desktop and mobile because they behave very differently from an engagement and conversion standpoint. This also allows you to create the proper message for each device and user.
You should talk to a mobile user differently to get their attention than you do with a desktop user.
4. Pick the proper optimization. If you are not getting 50 sales per week then Facebook isn’t able to optimize your campaign. So move up the funnel to Add To Cart conversions or Clicks To Website so that you can reach those 50 conversion for optimization.
You can also then move back down the funnel as you dial in the offer and campaign and sales are coming in.

5 Instagram Ad Types To Test
These ad types I have chosen are based on my experience with the accounts I manage. Some of these have worked very well and others not so much.
I am giving you all 5 though so that you can test and see which ad types work best for your business.
1. Slideshow Ads
Slideshow ad types are effective and easy to create. There is no video required. You piece together images to tell a quick story and it doesn’t require user interaction. You can then add a CTA to the end.
2. Video
This is definitely the most engaging and can sometimes require more production based on what type of industry you are in.
The max length is limited to 60 seconds.
3. Images
These are the easiest and fastest to create. The text in the images are limited to 20% so that can sometimes be a challenge. This is why I like slideshows better because I can tell a story while staying within the 20% text rule.
Images work good with real people using your physical product, selfies, testimonials, etc.
4. Carousel
Carousels tell a story with no video creation required. They do require user interaction though and the user has to scroll to see all of it. Unfortunately many of us are lazy and if the first image in the carousel doesn’t capture their attention they are not likely to scroll and see the other images in the carousel.
The very first image is everything in regards to capturing their attention and getting them to scroll.
5. Stories
Stories are like snapchat and are video creatives. Right now this method doesn’t seem to be effective with paid media. They are easy to skip which then you just end up paying for impressions, but no clicks.
Stories might be an effective way to advertise someday, but right now they just don’t seem to produce the ROI.
