We are deeply appreciative of the work by Connie Sanders over the years. As a PReP activist and founder of PROMO, Connie's legacy has touched thousands of lives across the state fighting for LGBTQ+ rights.

Research | Rise: Research Inclusion Supports Equity 06/06/2023

Little is known about the unique experiences of
LGBTQ+ caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease
and related dementias (ADRD) and the consequences of
these overlapping identities (i.e., LGBTQ+ and caregiver).

The RISE (Research Inclusion Supports Equity) study has created a registry to ensure the LGBTQIA+ community is represented in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia research. The RISE registry is for LGBTQIA+ people 18 and older who either have memory concerns or a memory loss diagnosis, or who are helping care for someone with memory loss or a memory loss diagnosis. RISE can connect those who register to resources and research opportunities. There is no cost to participants, registrants, or organizations for partnering with us. Rather, our goal is to work with you to better serve the LGBTQIA+ community.

In addition to our ongoing recruitment to the registry, they are currently recruiting people to take part in online focus groups so they can better understand the needs and experiences of memory loss and caregiving in the community, as well as to get feedback about how best to include our community in aging research.

RISE be hosting online focus groups on the following dates:

June 7 at 10:00am—person w/ memory loss
June 20 at 10:00am—caregiver
June 22 at 6:00pm—person w/ memory loss
June 28 at 10:00am—person w/ memory loss
July 20 at 6:00pm—caregiver
July 26 at 10:00am—person w/ memory loss
August 3 at 6:00pm—caregiver
