I ran my first official sub-6-minute road mile, finishing in 5:59 at the Macklind Mile! 🎉
This short focuses on my race and the RRCA race, but the event had so much more to offer! The Elite race, the recreational mile, the dog mile, the kids' quarter mile, and the RRCA National Championship races.
🏃 Want to see the full event? The complete race-day experience, including all of those races, is now on my YouTube channel!
👇 What's your mile PR? Or is the mile a distance you'd like to race someday?
Week 35 of the Squeaky Chicken Mile was a preview of the Macklind Mile course... and let's just say it didn't go exactly as planned. 🐔😂
LMK, what's the funniest wardrobe malfunction or unexpected disaster you've had during a run or race? Because this one might be mine!
This week, I joined runners from Big River Running, Bound Running, Filla Endurance, Spewak, and Dogtown to run the course and talk race strategy. We even stopped at the highest point to discuss how to take advantage of the long downhill finish.
Unfortunately, before we even got there...
I tripped. While WALKING 🤣
Not only did I trip, I ripped a giant hole in the crotch of my chicken suit, causing it to slowly deflate. 🫠🐔
Thankfully, I always carry safety pins, so I made an emergency roadside repair (with a little help) and finished the run. The only downside? The pin worked itself loose and spent the rest of the run repeatedly poking my leg. (The photos at the end tell the story... 😂)
Did we quit?
Absolutely not.
That's kind of the whole point of the Squeaky Chicken Mile. Things don't always go according to plan, but the strangest runs usually make the best stories. Every week is another adventure, another reason to laugh, and another reminder that running is supposed to be fun.
Oh... and my campaign continues:
🐔 ChicknLegs , please make a squeaky chicken pattern outfit! 🐔
Another awesome Summer Speedwork in the bag! The summer speedwork series is a free event put on by Big River Running (not a sponsor). It is designed for runners of all levels and is incredibly well organized. I didn't know what to expect with lots of runners of different levels on the track at once, but I have been blown away every time with how well it works. I love that fast friends and slow friends can both participate and cheer each other on along the way! HMU or go to their website if you want to join!
