Juneteenth, a federal holiday celebrated on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for freedom, justice, and equality in our country.
