Monarch FPD Launches Prehospital Blood Program

Big news for our community: Monarch Fire Protection District is now carrying blood products in our EMS Captain vehicle (2207C), enabling our paramedics to start blood transfusions right at the scene of an emergency, before a patient ever reaches the hospital.

Severe bleeding from trauma, childbirth complications, and other emergencies can take a life in minutes. IV fluids alone can't replace what a patient is actually losing. Now, thanks to a partnership with Impact Life and months of work building new protocols, training, and cold-chain storage systems with our Medical Director, Dr. Mike DeFilippo, our crews can give patients real blood when they need it most, right where the emergency finds them.

This is a direct investment in the survival of our neighbors, our families, and our first responders.

"Blood cannot be replaced by IV fluids alone. When someone is bleeding to death, what they need is blood, and now our paramedics can give them exactly that." — Nick Smith, Deputy Chief of EMS
