10,000 properties damaged. $1.6 billion in losses. And full-scale rebuilding won't begin until mid-2027.
St. Louis families are still waiting — and the reasons go deeper than anyone in power wants to admit.
Federal funding that takes a year or more to reach the city. State procurement rules that freeze money already approved. A municipal team that was never sized to manage a disaster of this scale.
Over 3,000 homeowners have applied for repair assistance. Many are still in limbo.
This isn't just about slow government. It's about a system that was never built to handle what hit North St. Louis — and the real people paying the price every single day.
We break down exactly what's happening, who's accountable, and what comes next.

Community News. Now. E News June 1
More than a year after the May 16, 2025 tornado damaged parts of St. Louis, the Julia Davis and Cabanne branch libraries have reopened — and their return means so much more than repaired buildings.
For North St. Louis, these libraries are places of learning, connection, history, and hope.
Cabanne’s reopening revealed a restored historic ceiling that had been hidden for decades. Julia Davis returns with a Memory Lab to help families preserve photos and videos, along with Tool Library access to support rebuilding and repair.
These spaces remind us that recovery is not only about what we restore. It is about what we remember, protect, and continue building together.
Let’s celebrate the return of these neighborhood anchors and keep supporting the community institutions that help St. Louis heal and grow.
