The other day I was feeling pretty down about the world and how much pain and anger there seems to be. That day I had to go to the post office and when I went in there was a long line. One of the people in line was a homeless woman with many bags. The people behind her formed a separate line to put distance between them and her.

There was only one man working, but he was churning us out! When it got to be that woman’s time she asked for her mail. He went to the back and came out a couple of moments later and said, “I’m sorry ma’am I don’t see anything back there for you.” This cause her to spiral. She started demanding the contact information for the Post Master General and was distraught because she said people must be stealing her mail because shes been getting her mail here since 2017. The man was writing down the information that she could have to bring up her concerns and an impatient man behind her said, “maybe there’s no mail back there for you because nobody is sending you any. You stink.” 😠

Immediately the man behind him spoke up and told him just how awful that was…in not so nice words. The woman left with her piece of paper with the information on it. A young woman a couple of people in front of me asked the employee about the woman and he said that she comes in all the time and there’s never been mail for her. She always gets upset and it’s a routine. The girl said how she thought that was sad and left. But then a minute later she came back in and asked the guy what her name was because she’d like to start sending her letters or a card. How sweet? That inspired me and I also asked for her name and sent her a package later that day with a card.

What really got to me later that night when I finally sat down and thought about it was how more people in that post office were kind than not. It brought me back to my normal place of optimism and hope for the world.

I made a video about this yesterday and have literally received hundreds of DMs asking for her address to send her something. That also fills my heart that so many people want to help 🥺 For now, I can’t share her info publicly for obvious safety and privacy reasons. And for those who have asked privately for it, I’m going to ask the post office their policy and also hopefully get in contact with this woman to see if this is something she wants or can handle. I genuinely don’t know her mental capacity or her living situation if she’d be able to handle that level of mail. But stayed tuned because I’ll definitely do my best 🫶 Thanks for being there good ones.
