Join us on Saturday, July 11, at 11am for an architectural walking tour with Peter Clarkson exploring the museum building. In 1996, Clarkson, who was already working on Tadao Ando's first building in the USA, the Eychaner House in Chicago, a 10,500-square-foot residence in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, was asked to become the Construction Manager/Owner's Representative for the Pulitzer.

"Constructing buildings designed by architect Tadao Ando is fascinating, exhausting, challenging, demanding and very rewarding. The buildings look deceptively simple but require a tremendous amount of effort to build correctly." - Peter Clarkson, Structures Congress 2006: Structural Engineering and Public Safety

"Explanations always fall short of sensations." - Richard Serra

In this clip from his lecture at the Pulitzer, Dr. Richard Shiff explores how the work of Ellsworth Kelly and Richard Serra can be appreciated without any prior knowledge of art history or criticism, and how too much theory might actually get in the way.

Drawing on Serra's own words, Dr. Shiff suggests that stepping back from explanation and simply responding to the work can teach us more about ourselves than about the artists who made it.
