Recently I made a ketubah for and
For those who don’t know a Ketubah means “written” and has come to refer to the Jewish marriage contract. An ancient document, the ketubah represented an advancement in women’s status by protecting the rights of the bride. In its original form, the ketubah specified such things as the dowry and the groom’s responsibility to support his wife. Today it’s seen as a symbolic gesture between the bride and groom to show their love ❤️ and support for each other.
This is my second time making one. The only requirement I was given was that it should have animals on it. So the work was inspired by looking at Native American printmaking techniques, a horse I saw while staying at the .artist.residency and Janie’s interest in the Leather Archives.
