Earlier this month, we gathered in the Broughton STEAM Center to celebrate the retirements of Dana Scott Saulsberry, Director of Admission, and Marieann Barratt, Upper Division Science Teacher. Generations of colleagues and families came together to honor their careers and the many contributions they’ve made to our school community. Stay tuned for more about their impact in an upcoming publication. 🎉

Later that evening, we recognized Community employees celebrating milestone years of service during our Annual Meeting. Congratulations to Ingrid Bonds, Rebecka Briney, Jessica Farris, Amy Breier, Anna Lemen-June, Danny Rodgers, Donna Scott, and Trisha Stanley (5 years); Therese Futhey and Kara Smith (10 years); Wayne Scott (15 years); and Martha Overcash (40 years)!

We also recognized Veronique Gardet as the 2026 Lowenhaupt Award recipient. As Head of School Laurie Smilack shared, “Over her 16 years at Community, she has been described as tireless, creative, and deeply committed to her students. She is someone who sets clear expectations, meets children with patience and care, and approaches her work with both professionalism and heart.” Congratulations, Vero! 💫

Hear ye, hear ye! 🎭

Our 5th graders recently took the stage in “Shakespeare Smorgasbord,” a lively mashup of “Romeo and Juliet,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and “Hamlet.” Adapted by drama teacher Alissa Rowan, the performance blended Shakespeare’s classic stories with creativity, modern humor, and plenty of dramatic flair.

Our students brought their characters to life with confidence and enthusiasm, showcasing strong ensemble work, excellent comic timing, and seamless transitions. Bravo to our young thespians!

Special thanks to Jen Gosnell for altering the professional costumes.
