What is Radon?
Radon comes from the natural decay of uranium that is found in nearly all soils. It typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Your home traps radon inside, where it can build up. Radon from soil gas is the main cause of radon problems. Radon can also build up from water under the home also.

Should you be concerned of high levels of Radon?
The EPA says that Radon can increase your chances of developing cancer. I always tell my clients to look at the EPA website for the most up to date info on Radon. The EPA recommends homes be fixed if the radon level is 4 pCi/L or higher. There are a couple of ways to fix the problem.
Usually when your getting your new home inspected prior to closing the inspector will be able to set up a Radon test kit or monitor to find out the Radon levels in the home. Average cost for test is $100-$140 bucks.

How do you get rid of Radon in the home?
There are a couple of ways to get rid of Radon in your home. The most common way is to install a Radon mitigation system in your lowest level. There are a lot of companies that install the system. Cost is around $1400-$1800 for a average instal.
