⚠️POSSIBLE SMOKE IN THE AREA⚠️

This evening, units responded to the area of U.S. Highway 301 North near Highlands Baptist Church, north of Lawtey, for a reported brush fire. Upon arrival, crews located a fire burning in wooded terrain. Firefighters worked alongside the Florida Forest Service, which deployed bulldozers to construct containment lines and stop the fire from further spreading.

Although the approximate 50 acre woods fire has been contained, residents in the surrounding area may continue to notice residual smoke overnight and into tomorrow. Motorists are encouraged to use caution if they encounter areas of reduced visibility.

As temperatures remain high and vegetation continues to dry, residents are reminded to use extreme caution with any outdoor burning or activities that could ignite a wildfire.
