The front doors to the iconic: 'ICE PALACE-57' disco in 1978. The dance club was the gay answer to and rivaled 'STUDIO-54' for attention in the disco era. However, it remained somewhat clandestine in the mainstream in a far less tolerant and enlightened time for LGBT people. It ran from 1977 to 1975 and anyone gay or gay/bi-curious knew it and frequented it at least once. Located at:: 57 W.57th Street, near the corner of 6th Avenue, in ritzy Midtown-West. It was located one flight down to a decent, but not huge space for a popular disco in the 70's.The music, the people, the ambience and the vibe still vibrates today for those that were there so long ago and cherish the memories our beloved IP-57. The disco music and its entire culture that still evokes a profound fondness from our youth. 🏳️🌈

Anyone of a certain age (60+),alive today & a true survivor....remembers going to Badlands on a Sunday afternoon on that infamous corner of Christopher & West Streets in the mid to late 70's to the end of the 80's. A sea of men, mostly in jeans and
leather; yeah, that type. The glamor crowd headed to Ice Palace-57 uptown on Sunday for their infamous T-Dance party. It was the gay Studio-54 & a very popular disco of the era.

Back in the day....The corner of Christopher Street & 7th Avenue South in 1982 in the "gay" village! Notice the now defunct home improvement store Martin Paints where CVS is today. Before that it was a neighborhood mainstay as an A&P supermarket. A lot has changed and the village here is no longer a mecca for gay men like it once was. Even the Village Ci**rs, opened in 1922 on the corner is now vacant and for rent.🧐
