Watch Me Grow Daycare
Kim MacDonald, owner Watch Me Grow is a small, licensed home-based daycare focused on nurturing care, educational fun, and child development.
To My Families and Community,
Fourteen years ago, I opened my licensed daycare with bare walls, old floors, and a mix of hand-me-downs from yard sales and sidewalks. What I lacked in materials, I built with trust, respect, and community. Childcare isn’t about the material things….it’s about the people behind it. It’s the people that matter most.
People told me I was crazy, even ridiculous, that I was opening up a home-daycare with young kids of my own. In my heart, I knew it was the right thing at the right time. What I found was joy, purpose, and some of the happiest and most meaningful memories of my life.
When I first opened my door and welcomed my very first baby, I didn’t know exactly what I had planned. I only knew I would take it day by day, week by week, year by year. I made changes when they were needed, and I always kept the children’s needs first.
This house has held laughter, tears, milestones, friendships, and so much love. We sang, we played, we yelled, we cried, and together, we grew. This has truly been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
Childcare, to me, has never been about charts or checkboxes. It’s about connection, joy, curiosity, and teaching children about the world in natural, meaningful ways. Childcare isn’t about molding kids into something different or drilling them with letters, numbers, and “acting right.” It’s about supporting what sparks their interest, matching purpose with exploration, and letting them learn in ways that are organic and free. Children learn best through hands-on play by touching, feeling, creating, and exploring in meaningful and natural ways. That is where the real growth happens. When you let go of rigid rules and simply breathe, touch, feel, and learn alongside children, they end up teaching you more than you could ever teach them.
Now, with much thought and careful consideration, I feel it is time to turn the page. A new chapter is calling me. I will be stepping into work in the school district while completing my duel master’s degree this May. My calling to provide care and knowledge is not ending, it is simply shifting into a new space.
To the families who trusted me with your children, to the community who supported me with referrals and kind words, THANK YOU. You believed in me, and together we built something lasting. Though I am closing this door, I will remain here if anyone needs guidance, referrals, or simply someone to reach out to.
If I could leave you with one last thought, it would be this: children don’t grow from pressure, or from making sure every assessment and checklist is up to par. They grow from possibilities, from exposure, from experience, and from being natural. When we choose to see their light instead of measuring their limits, we give them the space to become who they are meant to be. They become thinkers, creators, and inventors. The greatest gift we can offer a child is not perfection, but the freedom to be themselves and to explore openly.
And just like that…a chapter has turned.
From the bottom of my heart ❤️
Thank you!
