To put it modestly, the cost of living has increased. According to builders in the area the approximate cost to rebuilding a house is over $200 a sq ft! A simple rule of thumb is to multiply the square footage of your house by the cost to build. For example,

1300 sq ft house × $200 = $260,000 dwelling limit

This is just a quick general method to see if your coverage is adequate. The last thing you want to have happen during a loss is not having the appropriate amount coverage. I have worked with clients who came to the realization they needed to up their limits and pay a little bit more. Remember a cheap policy with inadequate limits is useless.
