The good old days 🫣

In the 1985 Giro d’Italia Verona prologue, Roberto Visentini was set to ride the radical Battaglin–FiR “Pirana” time trial bike, featuring a bulged, faired front wheel for aerodynamic advantage. Tests had shown it was about 3 seconds per km faster than a normal TT bike, but race officials banned it on the start day for providing an unfair advantage. Visentini switched to a conventional bike and finished 2nd to Francesco Moser.
