⛑vintage first aid supplies⛑

the concept of first aid has been recorded historically for ages, particularly in relation to warfare. greek pottery dating back to c. 500 BC reflects the bandaging of battle wounds & many roman accounts reference first aid being performed by combat medics or good samaritians.

the primary goal of first aid is to prevent further injury or death. throughout time, first aid training spread through various organizations in fields related to high risk activities like railways or ports.

modern first aid kits were inspired by johnson & johnson after company founder, robert wood johnson, boarded a train to colorado for his vacation. johnson met the chief surgeon for the denver & rio grande railway and discussed the harsh realities & dangers for those assisting in railway construction. the lack of medical supplies & specialty care was in demand for these workers; change & advancement was needed. after this exchange, the first commercial first aid kit was released in 1888.

medicine has made incredible advancements since then! it is lovely to note that some of the greatest ideas come from simply striking up a conversation & taking initiative. vintage medical supplies & devices are always something that we are interested in collecting — feel free to share yours or message us to sell!

this small lot of supplies is for sale — message us for details!

gnezdovo is an archeological site located near the village of gnyozdovo in russia. gnezdovo was first discovered in 1867 when workmen were installing a new railway line. imagine — stumbling upon tenth century jewelry by chance!

the site is believed to have been a slavic-varangian settlement that flourished in the tenth century as a major trade route.

this helm is a reproduction of an artifact that was recovered at gnezdovo. the original artifact is believed to have been crafted in the ninth or tenth century.

this helm is quite the beauty! it is a slightly newer addition to the rotten plum collection, but we are so grateful it has found it’s home!
