Dancin' In The Streets

Thanks to all of you who have been asking about Dancin’ in the Streets.

This summer Downtown Stuart is undergoing construction which will close Osceola Street and St. Lucie Avenue in July and August.

The sidewalks and all of our downtown businesses will still be open, but we will not hold Dancin’ in the Streets this year.

Every year, the streets of Downtown Stuart shut down and the community comes out for a day of live musical performances, food, drinks, vendors, kids activities and of course - Dancin' iIn The Streets!

Stuart, Florida has seen a lot of changes since the first Dancin' In The Streets in 1987.

Back then, The Lyric Theatre was dark. There was no Riverwalk, no outdoor dining, no green market and no weekly concerts.

The mini music festival, which returns Saturday, was started by a handful of merchants and chamber members to raise money for the revitalization of the historic downtown.

Mission accomplished.

“Stuart is a vital, thriving city because a handful of people had a vision,” said Thondra Lanese Stuart, executive director of Stuart Main Street and one of the organizers of Dancin’ in the Streets.

In celebrating the 30-year anniversary, organizers are going back to basics by keeping the summer party in the streets of downtown and focusing on local and regional musicians.

"This is truly done for the community," Lanese said. "We try to create a cozy, neighborhood kind of feeling. A fun atmosphere to get together with friends and family."

More than 20 bands will fill five stages performing several genres of music, including Latin/reggae bands Bachaco and Moska Project, both crowd favorites.
