Some students walk in and make an impression right away.

Steven? He rolled in and immediately raised the bar.

His first words to us were, “My name is Steven, but you can call me Stumpy.” At that point, we knew two things: this Open Water student had an incredible sense of humor, and he was going to fit right in with the Stuart Scuba family.

Steven is a dual above-knee amputee from the Marine Corps due to an IED in Afghanistan. Stumpy had a huge goal: becoming scuba certified so he could one day dive with whale sharks. And honestly? He is absolutely crushing it.

Adaptive scuba training is all about meeting the diver where they are, building confidence, and keeping safety at the center of every skill. Luckily, Benjamin is an Instructor Trainer experienced in working with adaptive, Scubility, and classified divers, so Steven is in the right place to learn, laugh, and grow as a diver.

His attitude is amazing, his jokes are nonstop, and his determination is even better.

This is what inclusive diving is all about: safe training, strong instruction, and helping people chase big ocean dreams.

Steven, we are proud of you already. Whale sharks, better get ready.
