Why leading edge repairs need stronger reinforcement
Not every repair area on a kite or wing is exposed to the same type of stress.
While ripstop tape can work well for small canopy repairs, structural areas such as the leading edge often require much stronger reinforcement to properly handle pressure and load.
We put together a short Repair Tip article explaining why some repairs fail under pressure and why Dacron reinforcement matters in structural repairs.

Harness repair before & after
This harness came in with a torn-out strap and was fully repaired and reinforced.
We donβt just repair kites and wings β we regularly work on harnesses, bags, sails and many other types of watersports gear as well.
If youβre unsure whether something can be repaired, just stop by or message us anytime.

This repair failed under pressure.
A previous ripstop repair on the leading edge could no longer handle the load, so the damaged area had to be completely rebuilt.
We reinforced the inside with strong Dacron, installed a new external Dacron panel and rebuilt the seam before pressure testing the wing again.
For structural leading edge repairs, proper reinforcement matters.

Why does the bladder keep puncturing?
Sometimes the actual problem stays hidden inside the wing.
Tiny thorns can remain stuck inside the leading edge or strut and repeatedly puncture the bladder, even after repair.
A good reminder to be careful around bushes and sharp plants β and to always inspect carefully before reinstalling a bladder.

Why do bladders keep puncturing?
Sometimes the actual leak is not the biggest problem.
Weβve recently seen more cases where tiny thorns or sharp fragments remain hidden inside the leading edge or strut, repeatedly puncturing the bladder even after repair.
In some situations, locating the cause becomes far more complicated than the puncture itself.
We put together a short repair tip explaining why this happens and what signs to look for.
