You don’t get this opportunity in clinics.
When we started this business, it was after years of hesitation of whether it would “work”. But even our name was a wink from God, as it “just fit”…South Carolina is my home, Summerville is my home, and these people are my “home”, where I just feel my best and most natural self.
There are so many things we love about this business. We get to help people, choose our priorities so that we can always do what we feel is best and most appropriate for our customers, owners and pets alike.
And see our beautiful state.
Yesterday was special. I was able to travel through an area that I hadn’t been for a while; saw the strawberry field my Mom used to take her grandchildren to. And then this. A curbside market with the cutest items; I bought some local honey, an engraved cutting board, and a handmade apron. I watched (and sheltered) as a heavy rain came across the corn field across the street.
Later got caught in a downpour, and saw a rainbow. I loved the summer rain soaking…I mean, I’d avoided the other five downpours. 😂 All the while seeing appreciative clients and patients, and enjoying our beautiful state.
There is no place like South Carolina. It’s filled with beaches and foothills and crops and scenery that just fill my soul.
And the people…southern hospitality and humor and goodwill abounding.
Home is truly a beautiful place.

Animals never cease to amaze us.
We can learn a lot from them…❤️

In 1996, a stray mother cat in Brooklyn, New York, captured the hearts of animal lovers worldwide with an extraordinary display of bravery. When a fire broke out in an abandoned garage, the cat—later named Scarlett—ran into the blaze five separate times, rescuing each of her kittens one by one.

Scarlett’s repeated trips into the smoke and flames left onlookers and firefighters in awe. Even after sustaining burns and exhaustion, she persisted until every kitten was safe. Her determination showed a level of maternal instinct and courage that few could imagine.

The story of Scarlett went viral, turning her into a symbol of devotion and resilience. Beyond the dramatic rescue, it reminded people of the instinctive love and protective spirit animals can have for their families. Today, Scarlett’s legacy lives on as a testament to courage, care, and the extraordinary lengths one can go to protect those they love.

We’re SOOOO glad that he’s better!
Poor Bugsy really “tied one on” with his last outing, but gratefully recovered.
Cats…you just NEVER know what they’ll get into!

We are so grateful for the care and advice of Dr. Cordoza for helping to get our cat, “Bugsy,” back to normal after a really serious illness that popped up from nowhere. She even came into Central Vet on her day off to check on him for herself. They are a great crew, and were wise enough to send us to the Charleston Veterinary Referral Center, which has advanced medical equipment to evaluate & treat serious problems.
This image is Bugsy today, 10 days after being treated by all these professionals and giving us the plans to get him well at home. Many, many thanks!!

Sweet Ditzy lived up to her name, for sure. I think she looks like Frida Kahlo, but she was appropriately named (by my niece lovingly called “Dizzy”) and affectionately received her examination and vaccinations without a care.
We love that we can make veterinary appointments less stressful for our patients and owners (though I don’t know that Ditzy ever gets flustered).
Let us help make your veterinary visit less stressful! You can call, text, email, or schedule online.

We want to thank all of you, our friends and clients, who supported us while we went to see our son graduate boot camp.
We are grateful for your understanding, prayers, and support; this business would be nothing without you and our family!

Pictures. Anyone who knows me knows that I love pictures. But these capture “it.”
This is why I love doing what we do. Ms. Paulette was able to capture it in a single photo.
Rocky was a rescue, a BEAUTIFUL dog with heartworms and hip dysplasia. Two very good reasons to be “grumpy”, and distrust anyone (animal or person).
The first time we met, he liked me. As long as I didn’t try to get too “handsy” or too close. So we met and I examined him and we came up with a plan (Ms. Paulette and I).
Subsequent visits become more relaxed, but this last visit was the last visit. His poor body was declining, and deserved peace.
But I treasure these photos, of this 80 # beast acting like a lap dog, whining if I wasn’t petting him, practically in my skin (by the third visit).
This is why I love what we do…even makes all the paperwork and menial tasks purposeful.
Because there is nothing better than love. And, for the little time I knew him, I fell in love with him. And he loved Ms Paulette. And boy did she love him big!

Let’s play a game, “Never have I ever.” You know how to play, correct? I’ll start…
Never have I ever examined a patient in this position.
Cooper is a rescue, a great protector (of his household and family), and such a gentle sweet soul. His family has been consistently working with him, building his confidence and trust. He was a perfect gentleman, from examination to vaccinations to bloodwork.
I love when we are able to minimize the stress and anxiety for pets and owners, make a veterinary visit a positive and fun experience, and meet wonderful people!
