🤝 Connecting for a Stronger, Safer Community

Looking back on last week - our team hit the ground running at a Thursday morning networking event with the Middleton Chamber of Commerce. It was an incredible start to the day—connecting with local leaders and sharing the heart behind The Better Path Foundation.

A major highlight was hearing from Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. His message resonated deeply with our mission: "We cannot arrest our way out of this problem." We were particularly moved by his commitment to bringing essential services directly into the jail system. Ensuring that individuals aren't simply "kicked out" to the street, but instead leave with established connections and a support system, is vital. Having worked with participants who have transitioned from incarceration, we know firsthand how life-changing that bridge to the community can be.

The Sheriff also spoke passionately about school bus safety and the importance of driver attention for our kids. As many of our participants are parents, the safety of their children is a top priority as they rebuild their lives.

We also had the pleasure of connecting with Phil Ouellette from EOS Worldwide. I’ve already started diving into their business training materials, and it’s inspiring to see the level of expertise we have right here in our local business community.

Every person in our community is valuable. As we continue to grow our roots in Madison and Middleton, we are always looking to connect with community-minded leaders who share our vision for a healthier, safer future.

Thank you to the Middleton Chamber of Commerce, Sheriff Kalvin Barrett, Dane County Sheriff's Office, and Phil Ouellette for your vision. Together, we are building a better path for everyone.

🧠 The Engine of Perspective

We’ve all had those days where the weight of the past feels like it’s holding us back. But a "flat tire" doesn't mean the journey is over; it just means you need a change.

In recovery, our attitude is the engine that drives us.

If you’re feeling stuck today, ask yourself:

What thought or habit do I need to swap out so I can keep moving forward? 🛠️

You have the tools. We are here to help you use them.

Rooted in Resilience. 🌲✨

Sometimes nature gives us a perfect reminder of what strength looks like. We saw this tree and couldn't help but see the silhouette of a woman standing tall, arms outstretched, and firmly rooted in the earth.

As we close out the first week of Women's History Month, this image feels like the perfect tribute to the women we serve at The Better Path. Recovery is about being rooted—finding your footing again—but it's also about the courage to reach up, branch out, and grow toward the light.

To the mothers, daughters, and sisters in our community: your history is one of endurance, and your future is one of growth. We are here to provide the steady support and guidance you need as you stand tall.

Happy Friday, and here's to a weekend of growth.

More Than a Month. 🗓️

History isn't just made in the streets; it's made around tables like this one. In the quiet moments of guidance and the brave steps toward recovery, the people in our community are reclaiming their lives and rewriting their own stories.

As Black History Month comes to a close, we are reflecting on the fact that history isn’t just something in a textbook—it is being written every day right here in our homes.

At The Better Path, our commitment to equity and recovery doesn’t end when the calendar turns to March. We are honored to provide support and guidance to the Black men and women in our community who are navigating the difficult journey of recovery.

While this month is a time for reflection, for us, it is also a time for renewed resolve. We know the barriers—systemic, financial, and personal—are real 365 days a year. That is why we are here for the long haul, offering a steady hand to those the system too often overlooks.

History is what brought us here; the work is what moves us forward. We are proud to stand with you today, tomorrow, and every day to follow.
