California and New York working against Landlords:

According to Assembly Bill 1418, California landlords will no longer be able to enact "crime-free" housing programs, which include refusing to rent or evict those with prior criminal convictions.
California landlords will also no longer be able to charge multiple months' rent as a security deposit.
New York has passed similar laws in an effort to combat homelessness and housing affordability.

Lower-income consumers are cutting back on spending as their pandemic savings run out, and more people are missing credit card and car payments. While this slowdown might help the Federal Reserve curb inflation, it also risks triggering a deeper, more difficult-to-reverse economic downturn.
