Empower Counseling
We help people who’ve tried therapy, insight, and coping skills... and still feel stuck.
Therapy is weird because the thing that brings you in is often not the whole story. You come in talking about the coworker. The text you overthought. The conversation that left you spiraling. The moment you shut down, overexplained, people-pleased, or felt way more upset than the situation “should” have made you feel. And in good trauma therapy, we are not just looking at what happened this week. We are connecting the dots. In EMDR therapy for CPTSD, we pay attention to how your daily life patterns are connected to the way your trauma responses were wired. How you learned to see yourself. How you learned to stay safe. How you learned to move through relationships, conflict, disappointment, pressure, and other people’s emotions. Because those patterns usually started as protection. But when they keep running the show, they can pull you back into situations that do not feel good. That is the stuff we help you untangle. Not because you are broken. Because your nervous system learned some very specific rules a long time ago, and therapy can help update the map.
One of the biggest myths about therapists is that we somehow exist outside the human experience. The truth? We regulate too. Sometimes that looks like stretching out on the couch for five quiet minutes. Sometimes it's letting our feet tap, eating a real lunch, taking a breath before the next session, or giving our nervous system a chance to settle. We spend a lot of time helping people untangle burnout, overthinking, people pleasing, perfectionism, and chronic overfunctioning. And many of us know those patterns from the inside. Rest isn't something we prescribe from a distance. It's something we actively practice. Because showing up well for other people starts with taking care of the human doing the showing up. If you've ever felt guilty for slowing down, consider this your reminder: regulation is productive too.
