Reduce Reuse Recycle in Swampscott

🚛♻️ 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 & 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁!

Here are the 10 most important things to know as Town of Swampscott prepares for the transition:

1️⃣ 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴.
New trucks with mechanical arms will collect Town-issued carts, improving safety and efficiency.

2️⃣ 𝗡𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱.
Every eligible household will automatically receive a new Town-issued 95-gallon blue recycling cart.

3️⃣ 𝗡𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁.
Continue using your Town-issued 35-gallon black trash cart.

4️⃣ 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲
📅 Week of July 20: New recycling carts will be delivered. You do not need to be home.
📅 Week of July 27 (or shortly thereafter): Automated collection is expected to begin.

5️⃣ 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆.
Set carts at the curb with the wheels and handle facing your home. Leave at least 3 feet of clearance between carts and other objects.

6️⃣ 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱.
Residents may continue to use Town-issued blue bags for occasional extra trash.

7️⃣ 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁?
Online request forms are available for:
• A 65-gallon recycling cart (limited supply; no additional fee)
• Additional trash or recycling carts (available for an annual lease fee)

8️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁.
Place all cardboard in your recycling cart (not next to it). The Town will also pilot a monthly cardboard drop-off program at the DPW.

9️⃣ 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱.
The Town anticipates moving to every-other-week recycling collection in early 2027. The 95-gallon recycling cart is designed to accommodate two weeks' worth of recyclables.

🔟 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗻𝘀.
Your current recycling barrels and bins are yours to keep. Repurpose them, give them to a friend, or set them out for the Town's one-time special collection in August (date to be announced).

As you celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, remember to keep recycling simple and help reduce contamination.

Before tossing items in your recycling cart:
✅ Empty food and drink containers
✅ Recycle clean bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard
❌ Keep food waste, plastic utensils, cups with leftover food, napkins, and other non-recyclables out of your recycling cart.
