Press Release:

🚨SECOND ALARM FIRE DAMAGES TWO BUILDINGS, DISPLACES FIVE🚨

Syracuse, NY – On Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 10:52 a.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported house fire at 1023 Lodi Street, with reports of possible occupants trapped inside. Crews from Station 2 on Lodi Street arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of a two-story residential structure. A Signal "99" was transmitted, indicating a working fire.

Firefighters stretched hose lines and immediately began extinguishment operations while additional teams searched the building for potential victims. Although initial reports indicated occupants may have been trapped, thorough searches confirmed everyone had safely exited the structure prior to firefighters' arrival.

The fire had extended into the neighboring residence at 1021 Lodi Street, prompting additional crews to respond and begin extinguishment operations in the exposure building. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes and declared it fully extinguished after approximately 50 minutes.

The primary fire building contained four apartments. The second floor and attic sustained extensive fire damage, with smoke and water damage extending throughout the first floor. A second-floor apartment in the neighboring building also sustained fire damage. Five residents were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of a heat-related illness. There were no reported civilian injuries.

According to Syracuse Fire Investigators, the fire originated in the bedroom of a second-floor apartment. The cause of the fire is undetermined. Firefighters remained on scene for more than four hours conducting overhaul operations and assisting investigators.
