The problem is the homeless recipients have no way to open canned items. They don't have a can opener.

Check on your local Red Cross' website for blood donation locations. They are doing everything humanly possible to make donating blood safe.

As Hurricane Florence images pour in many will be moved to donate to relief efforts. And so will the scams. To avoid giving to a scam or overnight charity that popped up, follow these tips:

1. Find a local organization such as the local Humane Society, local Food Bank or even the local chapter of the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. A governors fund has already been set up. It is at: https://governor.nc.gov/donate-florence-recovery

2. Look for collaborations with corporate partnerships or give through your workplace.

3. You don't have to give money. Food, diapers, toiletries and blood are also needed.
