This impressively versatile Gork cam is one of a number of custom artisan glitch devices I’ve added to my toolkit to help me create new work for my glitch art book. Each one has its own personality depending on the hardware and which bender created it. They act as distinct chaos collaborators that draw new ideas out of me from the decisions the circuit-bending makes in each shot. It causes me to re-experience my surroundings, to take photos of things I might not think to capture with a normal camera, because I don’t know what will happen. Slide 4 here is light coming through a dirty window covered in band stickers backstage at the TBQ show. It wouldn’t interest me to capture with my phone, I’d look right past it; but with a glitch camera I was freshly curious, and found an unexpected result from the mundane. Sometimes the way I discover a camera bends light and color when I’m out snapping photos with it gives me an idea for a setup to create back in my studio for a new art piece. It’s been so inspiring to continue to find new chaos collaborators to push myself in new directions for the book and beyond.
