We live in the land of Pao’s Donuts, but a new spot called UI Cafe opened across the street a couple of months ago and it was high time for us to get to know it. Sure, we wanted to support a new business in the neighborhood, but we also just really wanted to know how to say its name since we see it almost every time we leave the house (you-ee, oo-ee, you-eye, oo-eye?—compulsive readers will understand the tension this caused). Just pronounce the names of the letters UI (you-eye) and you’ve got it. That problem is solved, and the solution came with a slice of apricot honey cake, iced coffee, and a honeydew milk tea with rainbow jellies (when in doubt, just ask the barista for advice). -G

In February we like to see a movie at The Grand Cinema and eat dinner somewhere we can walk to from there. Friday we saw Nirvanna: The Band - The Show - The Movie (an entirely silly and fun film whose whole point is friendship), then walked down the Spanish Steps to En Sushi—a new spot that opened down on 7th & Pacific at the end of last year. This time we shared the shrimp shumai, seafood ramen (the one recommended when Michael asked our server which ramen she likes best), and the mackerel bento. All was delicious. Next time we'll try some sushi rolls and sashimi! -G
