The first time welding was used in space was in 1969. The purpose of the exercise was to see whether welding could be performed in a depressurized environment.

Welders are hired to help install and maintain boilers, anti-pollution systems, and other large structures; as well as piping for industrial, commercial, and residential facilities. Welding is even sometimes used by artists to create sculptures and decorative items.

One of the benefits of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) is that it allows greater control over the weld, and is superior to both gas and metal shielded arc welding in this regard.

In brazing, the filler metal melts at a higher temperature than in soldering, but the work piece metal still does not melt. This delivers an even stronger, more secure bond because of the higher melting point filler metal being used.

Sectional metals is steel frequently used in engineering and construction projects. They are standardized in shapes and sizes for these very purposes, and include beams, piping, bars, and rods.
