š„BURN BAN NOTICE ā TAOS FIRE DISTRICTš„
Due to extremely dry weather conditions, lack of sufficient moisture, high temperatures, low relative humidity, and increased wind activity, the Taos Fire District is implementing an open fire burn ban, effective immediately as of March 30, 2026.
This burn ban applies to all areas within the Taos Fire District, including:
ā¢Town of Taos
ā¢El Prado
ā¢CaƱon
ā¢Ranchos de Taos
ā¢Pilar
Effective immediately:
š« No open burning is permitted
š« No recreational fires are allowed
š« Taos Fire will not issue any burn permits until further notice
These restrictions are necessary to reduce the risk of wildfire and protect life, property, and our community.
The burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. An official notice will be issued when burning and permitting can safely resume.
We appreciate the publicās cooperation and commitment to keeping our community safe.

In the face of devastating fires that swept through the Taos Plaza area in the early 1930s, Blanch Grant, a visionary local artist and historian, joined forces with Jack Boyer to spearhead a movement for fire protection services, ultimately leading to the founding of the Taos Volunteer Fire Department in 1933. Community members petitioned and advocated for the creation of their own water system, law enforcment, and fire protection agencies leading to the Village of Taos' incorporation in May 1934.
