A preview of our upcoming exhibition, Bob & Bob: Robert M. Ellis and Robert C. Ellis

𝘜𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘥 (𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴), 1962 by Robert M. Ellis

While serving as the Curator of Education at the Pasadena Art Museum, Ellis took a leave of absence to study and paint in Paris. Stuck in his hotel room on a rainy, foggy day, he looked down to see the trees that lined his street, salient in their color but with fading definition. Inspired by this blurring of form caused by the weather, M. Ellis began painting his abstract 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴. These paintings feature bright yet gently applied streaks of color, with white backgrounds that reflect the haziness which fog and mist produce.

In 1961, upon his return to California, the Pasadena Art Museum held an exhibit of pieces from 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴. M. Ellis continued to paint as part of this series, which then evolved into two more series: 𝘔𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 and 𝘓𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦. Artworks from each series will be on display at 203 Fine Art in our upcoming exhibition.

New offering by our represented contemporary artist, Jonathan Sobol. Each painting this artist creates is a self-proclaimed landscape, abstracted through the emotional and visual aspects experienced while observing the land around him.

Jonathan Sobol has been a professional artist since 1976, although his explorations in oil painting began when he was just eight years old. Growing up amongst artists and musicians, Sobol was fortunate to have profound mentors to guide his craft. The diversity of his mentors gave Sobol the unique opportunity to find his own voice in a sea of creative possibilities.
