Last summer we spent two epic weeks in California. As we plan for our big summer trip I am enjoying thinking about last year. We were in the middle of building our house and desperately needing a break from it all. This was our first time going to San Diego and wow- I think it’s one of my favorite cities in the whole US! Cabrillo National Monument was magical. The views, rocky coast line, and ocean life were incredible. It felt like a little hidden gem. This is also a historical site where you learn about the first European to set foot on the west coast and what went down from there. This was another one of those classic times when a park highly exceeded our expectations. It should be on your list if you find yourself in the area!……
Do you have a favorite city in the US? We’d love to know!

Could this be the most beautiful beach in the US? Gulf Islands National Seashore just blew us away. The most emerald clear water we have ever seen, plus white sand for days. Even though it was unseasonably chilly the day we went it was still worth it. There are several public beach access areas you can enjoy (with no facilities) or there is Opal Beach that requires a fee but has facilities like restrooms and gazebos for picnics. You can also make your way down to Fort Pickens where they have a ranger station, visitor center and the fort to explore. We can’t wait to plan another trip here when it’s warmer. Do you have a favorite beach?

Cumberland Island National Seashore- totally worth the effort to get out here! This island is only accessible by ferry and it’s recommended to reserve your tickets before you go. We spent the day here exploring the island around the 5 mile Southern Loop trail. This hits all of the highlights like the Dungeness ruins, maritime forest, salt marsh boardwalk, the sand dunes, and the beach (where you can hunt for shells for days and even return home with what you find). Bring a picnic lunch, plenty of water, bug spray and some good walking shoes and you are good to go! There are plenty of great overnight campsites available as well. This experience far exceeded our expectations! We saw wild horses, armadillos, deer and tons of dolphins on our ferry ride back. National Parks get us every time. Who has made the trip to Cumberland Island?!
