The Rapid City Fire Department responded to a grass fire shortly before 3 p.m. Monday afternoon near the railroad tracks by the Lacrosse Fields and East Boulevard North.

Crews were able to quickly contain the fire and stop its forward progress. The fire burned approximately one quarter of an acre. There were no injuries and the fire remains under investigation.

With hot temperatures and elevated fire danger across our area, the Rapid City Fire Department reminds everyone to use extra caution with anything that could spark a fire. Properly dispose of smoking materials, avoid parking vehicles on dry grass, and follow any local fire restrictions. Small fires can spread quickly under these conditions.

Attention Butte County residents, especially those around the Nisland area. We have several units east of Nisland battling a large, rapidly spreading fire. At this time Highway 212 remains open.
