Ever ask yourself, what are “Natural Flavors”? 🤔 A single natural flavor can me made up of 100 different chemicals 👀 Natural flavors must originally be derived from something natural, such as a plant or animal. From there, it can be taken to a lab and altered to meet whatever flavor profile standard they are trying to achieve (typically something that mimics the real thing, or to trigger your receptors to associate with something familiar and to get you to crave more). The FDA does not require food companies to disclose what makes up their natural flavors. Some studies have shown that natural flavors can trigger allergies or certain sensitivities. There are more health concerns about these flavors arising and very little research to disprove or confirm. What we do know is both artificial and natural flavors are in approximately 80-90% of today’s processed foods. That’s a lot of consumption of things we don’t really know, nor how them impact our health. That’s why I personally choose to avoid them, especially when there are plenty of good foods and swaps out there that taste amazing, without them! What are your thoughts?
