Understanding a concept and living it out are two very different things. Ken Wells knows this better than most.

Earlier in this conversation, Wells described the shift that changes how shame works: separating who you are from what you've done. Here, he adds the part people often miss. That shift isn't a one-time realization, it's something you have to keep choosing.

"It's a nice thing. It's a hard thing. It's a lifelong pursuit," he says.

That's true of most meaningful change. The insight is the easy part. Returning to it, especially on the days it doesn't come naturally, is the actual work.
