MonGi Welcome Back!

Our last competition was in 2019!!! Luckily we have stayed in contact, paddled together in other boats and encouraged the competitive endeavors of our fellow teammates. But it is finally time to re-emerge and race once again. We are looking to fill a 10-man boat or two for LACDBF - Santa Fe Dam for October 1st. We need to have everyone who is able to attend to RSVP by August 21. This race will be the first step in our evaluation and training plan for the 2023 season.

Since its inception the MonGi team has been led by Coach Adrian. His presence in any boat is clearly known and appreciated. His commitment to excellence led us to near victory in the 2019 regional finals with only 19 paddlers and gold in so many other races. But as things have changed for so many of us during the pandemic era, Coach Adrian has also had some amazing changes. He finished his degree and now has a career in the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, this means he won’t be able to coach for the remainder of 2022 and the 2023 season. Y’all will be stuck with Coach Andy (cue the papers thrown in the air). In all seriousness, team leaders have been discussing a succession plan for a considerable time and we are excited to have both Andy Thomas, head coach and Eric Tang, assistant coach heading up this new chapter (cue the papers thrown in the air).
We resume regular practices on August 29, 2022.

At the beginning of the session coaches will address the team and answer any questions.

Recap:
- RSVP by August 21 for Santa Fe Dam race on October 1st.
- Please be sure to mark your intentions for practice and race on Heja. If you need the code to join, please message us or comment here.
- Practice at 6pm on August 29th
- Shoot for gold on October 1st

Last night, AZDBA MonGi, welcomed home two of our teammates. Over the past week, all of AZDBA's eyes, were on these two fine athletes! They represented AZDBA, by competing with THE US National team, at the 14th IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Pattaya, Thailand. They underwent a highly competitive selection process, to gain a spot on our countries national team. Both of our athletes trialed and ranked at the top of their respective divisions. Stephanie Yee competed on the Premier Women's and Mixed team and Zach Butler competed in Junior A Open and Mixed team. Steph brought home, a Gold, 2 Silvers and a Bronze Medal and Zach brought home 3 Bronze Medals. To say that we are proud of these two, is an absolute understatement! Congratulations Zach and Steph on this amazing accomplishment! And bravo to all the Paddlers, who represented our Country so well! Go Team USA! 🇺🇸💪🏾🏆
