2024 RYM Event Dates: November 10th – 16th
o What is Rock Your Mocs? Established 2011, Rock Your Mocs, is a worldwide Native American & Indigenous Peoples social media unity event held annually and during National Native American Heritage Month in the U.S.A. People wear their moccasins wherever their day takes them and many take a photo, or create a video/story, and upload to social media with the hashtag . This creates an online photo album for the world to see and enjoy while simultaneously uniting Native American & Indigenous Peoples through their unique, and collective, tribal culture and heritage. Additionally individuals, organizations, casino’s, schools, museums and tribes are taking the initiative to create their own independent events, both cultural and contemporary, throughout the world.
· Where is RYM held?
o Wherever you may be – on the rez of off the rez – and wherever your day may take you – school, work, running, playing rez ball or with family and friends!
o Look out for events in, or near, your community
· How to join in:
o Wear your moccasins or a turquoise Awareness Ribbon or a RYM T-shirt or organize an event.
o Take a photo, create a video or story and upload to social media and use the hashtag and/or
o Check the hashtag to see what’s happening worldwide!
o Tag in your posts, stories and reels
o Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter!
Why: We, as Indigenous people stand united through our tribal individuality, symbolically we wear our moccasins, honor our ancestors, and indigenous peoples worldwide, during Rock Your Mocs and National Native American Heritage Month.

Saulteau First Nation’s Healing Our Families Round Dance:
“This is more of a ceremony,” said Paquette when comparing it to SFN’s summer event, Pemmican Days. “Dancing is like a prayer. So we’ll gather, we’ll feast, we’ll dance, and then we’ll pray.” Slated to take place at SFN’s new cultural centre, the lineup features some heavyweight Indigenous entertainment.
Fawn Wood, a woman of Cree heritage in Alberta, will assist them on vocals. For her album Kakike, she won the 2022 Juno Award for Traditional Indigenous Artist or Group.
They include the Cree Confederation, a Treaty 6 Pow-Wow band. Formed in 2007, their aspirations to become “a recognizable group” culminated in a 2011 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for their album entitled Pakosíyimitán.
Festivities taking place at the Cultural Centre will begin with a pipe ceremony on Friday, November 22nd at 4:00 p.m., followed by a feast an hour later and then the dance and prize giveaway around 10:00 p.m. The event, including a midnight snack around 12:30 a.m., will finish around 1:00 a.m.

Saulteau First Nation's Healing Our Families Round Dance lineup announced – Energeticcity.ca The lineup for Saulteau First Nations’ (SFN) annual Healing Our Families round dance has been announced ahead of the late November event.

Congratulations to Steve Wood. Receiving his bachelor of education from the university in 2001, Stephen Wood, originally from the Saddle Lake Cree Nation, has spent most of his life in Maskwacis where he was a teacher for more than 20 years before taking on the role of vice principal at Ermineskin Junior Senior High.

He was recognized for his leadership as a teacher, musician and performer at the 2024 Uni of A alumni awards ceremony on Oct. 24, held at the university's campus.

During his career in education, Wood was dedicated to passing on knowledge of the Plains Cree dialect to the next generation, by teaching Cree language classes as well as writing and developing Cree curriculum within the Alberta school system.

Wood is also a co-founder of the well-known powwow round dance drum and singing group based in Maskwacis, Northern Cree. Wood started the group with his brothers in 1982.
