CSS GOOGLE TOUR!!!

On Friday March 16th, Computer Science Society went on a tour of Google's New York Headquarters. Brendan Collins, a fellow Googler who is involved with University Programs for the company, guided our club through Google's Office, describing the atmosphere as "similar to a high-school". First, we saw the emergency stairwell that was once a huge elevator shaft for trucks to drive into in order to deliver product. Some of the original architecture from this elevator shaft was kept in tact. Next, we took the elevator to the 14th floor of the building. We had the opportunity to see Googler's in their work environment (which consisted of comfy chairs, many windows, and a relaxed environment), as well as tour the famous Cafeteria, Panorama, that was unfortunately not serving food at that time. From the cafeteria, we walked to the outside terrace and took in the extraordinary view that Google has from their office. Finally, we took the elevator to the fourth floor and met with Fordham alumni Alex Golec and James Apfal who now work for Google. Alex Golec is a Tech Leader at Google and was previously a Software Engineer at Google-he has been with the company for over 5 years. James Apfal is a Software Engineer at Google and is approaching his first year with the company. We talked with Alex and James for over an hour, discussing their experiences at Google, how they got to where they are today, and what it takes to work at Google. The experience was overall intriguing, exciting, and motivating. CSS was given a taste of the substantial opportunities to come from choosing the field of Computer Science😀
