One factor in the stalling of DEI progress that we’re not talking about enough?

We worked the systems without connecting the people.

People who are not connected to the work—who do not see themselves in it, who do not feel care and responsibility for their colleagues, who do not understand the personal and team benefits of sharing power as insight, access, and opportunity—will resist a change they perceive as taking without giving.

It’s true that the resistance can be rooted in any number of isms, or multiple.

But sometimes, we’ve simply failed to remember how human motivation works.

Understanding comes before caring.
And caring comes before doing.

That’s why we don’t see our work as training. We don’t check boxes. We move people toward progress by curating experiences where people can discover what is innately human about the work, their colleagues, and the workplace that is possible with their conscious leadership.

Feeling accomplished today because all I ever wanted to do was honor our humanity by clarifying chaos, seeding optimism, creating solutions, inspiring courage, connecting people, and celebrating progress.

No matter what role I played or title I held, this was always the point. I love seeing folks enjoy just one of the many ways my team and I are pursuing purpose.
