June is Aphasia Awareness Month!
What is aphasia?
Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain damage (often from stroke) that affects a person’s ability to speak, understand, read, or write. Intelligence is not affected.
Almost 40% of stroke survivors have aphasia at the onset of their stroke, and around 25% have aphasia long term.
At the Stroke Life Center, we know recovery doesn't stop when rehab stops. That's why we host speech therapy, communication-focused groups, and social activities to help members with aphasia practice and connect.
