45 years ago today.....July 3rd , 1976.....

July 3rd, 1976 @ Thompson Drag Raceway...a young 18 year old "Dan the Sign Man" (far right) presented these cartoon sketches to (L-R) Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, Larry Lombardo, Ronnie Sox, Bob Glidden and Wayne Gapp (Gapp & Roush) prior to their match race at TDR.I was actually "commisioned" by Aaron Polburn at the time to do these.....What a thrill for me as these were heroes and icons of "the day",. Royalty as they say.....I remember Jenkins being "pi**ed" that there was only one sketch of the Monza and they gave it to both he and Lombardo...only fitting I guess.....R.I.P. Grump, Ronnie and Bob ...thanks for this wonderful memory as this picture is a prized possesion that hangs on my shop wall with pride and honor. Save us a spot in the pits Grump...right next to you and Ronnie and Bob.......
