What is banned and why is often a puzzle, particularly so when a previously lauded book finds itself on the list.

Following our announcement of our closure we’ve had a lot of folks asking how they can thank and support our staff, all of whom will be laid off.

As we move online, there may be occasional work available, like picking for Brilliant Books Monthly subscriptions or providing web content and recommendations, but this would be very part time and not an option for all our staff.

The best way you can thank, acknowledge, and reward our staff as they go through this transition is to leave a tip. That money goes directly to our booksellers, and if anyone could use a little extra support right now, it’s them. Most of our staff have been with us for years—and some nearly a decade!—so this isn’t just the loss of a job that can be easily replaced. It will mean completely reshaping their lives—from career shifts to taking remote jobs to the insecurity of temping and other hurdles. If you would like to honor their work, a tip would go a long way and be truly appreciated.
