American society is caught in a series of out-of-control socio-political and spiritual crises. Structural racism. Climate catastrophe. Collapsing democracy. Gun violence. Homelessness. Addiction. Abuse. Anxiety. Depression. Despair. All of this harm has been perpetuated, across generations, by policies and perspectives scripted by counterfeit supremacy stories based on race, class, gender and sexuality. We are collectively addicted to bogus human hierarchies of value. If this is the root cause, how about we rip a page right out of the 12-step movement? Let’s imagine what it might look like to move past symbolic apologies and make amends – in our interpersonal relationships and our political experiments too! On this continent, our comeback story cannot happen without reparations.
