Gastritis is a condition involving inflammation of the stomach lining. Symptoms can include upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or a feeling of fullness soon after eating. Left untreated, it can cause ulcers or anemia.

While medications are available to treat lactose intolerance, other measures are needed as well, including changes to the diet and adding dietary supplements.

If you're experiencing frequent heartburn, swallowing difficulties, unexplained weight loss or anemia, or abdominal pain, your doctor may refer you to a gastroenterologist for an upper endoscopy. This procedure uses a small camera inserted down the throat to examine the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and upper duodenum.
