Arizona police have recommended felony child abuse charges against the parents of an 18-month-old boy who allegedly drowned after they admitted to smoking ma*****na and not closely supervising him during a Super Bowl party. The toddler was pronounced dead at a hospital but was later found alive and breathing in the morgue several hours later, according to investigators. The child was airlifted to a children's hospital, where he survived despite initially suffering organ failure. Authorities say the case remains under review as prosecutors decide whether to file charges against the parents.

He faked his own death, fled overseas under a fake identity, and sparked an international manhunt. Now, the man at the center of one of the strangest fugitive cases in recent memory has died behind bars.

Nicholas Alahverdian, who claimed he was an Irish orphan named "Arthur Knight" while fighting extradition from Scotland, died Thursday in a Utah prison after complications from an existing medical condition, according to officials.

Alahverdian, AKA Nicholas Rossi, was serving a prison sentence after being convicted in two Utah assault cases. Prosecutors said he spent years using aliases and even a fake obituary in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid accountability.

He was 38.

Trash and bugs were found inside a one-year-old child’s diaper, along with what investigators described as one of the worst diaper rashes they had ever seen.

The discovery led to the arrest of the child’s mother and grandmother in Indiana.

Jasmine Duff, 34, and Shara Stevens, 52, are both facing preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in injury.

Officers with the Muncie Police Department were called last Friday afternoon to a home to assist the Department of Child Services, according to Fox 59.

When they arrived, investigators located Stevens with the one-year-old child. DCS workers reported the child had an “extremely red” and severe diaper rash described in records as the “worst they have ever seen.” Officials also noted the diaper contained trash and bugs.

Investigators say both Duff and Stevens told authorities the rash had been present for about a week and attributed it to generic diapers.

Both women were taken into custody by Muncie police and booked into jail.
