Today more and more aging baby boomers are navigating our roadways. In this lecture we will explore how degenerative cognitive impairment impacts safe automobile driving for seniors and the psychological fallout in taking away their independence. While taking the keys away might be the correct solution for some seniors, modifications for those with moderate disabilities can be made to keep them on the road. Dr. Anderson and Ms. Nordine will present the data and strategies in keeping our seniors safe.

Speakers

Dr. Allan Anderson is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist who serves as the

Director of Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Tucson, AZ. In addition to the evaluation
and treatment of cognitive disorders he also conducts clinical trials in Alzheimer’s
disease.

He is a Past President of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry. In 2014 AAGP honored him with the Clinician of the Year Award.

With 15 years of experience in acute care and rehabilitation based Occupational Therapy, Jenny Nordine had a strong desire to develop a driving program to provide the ultimate level of independence. This passion was developed into Driving to Independence in 2000. Jenny and her team serve clients all over Arizona and New Mexico to ensure each driver is safe and independent with this incredibly important activity. She recognizes the importance driving has in each of our lives and works to ensure each driver demonstrates the skills to be a safe driver.
