This parrot's beak had become severely overgrown after years of neglect. In cases like this, we often know before we even begin that we'll likely reach the living tissue as we restore the beak to a healthy shape.

When that happens, we immediately apply a veterinary-grade clotting powder to stop the small amount of blood flow and keep the bird comfortable. It may look dramatic, but it's a known possibility with severely overgrown beaks and is something we're fully prepared to handle safely.
This is exactly why beak grooming should be performed by someone with experience. Every beak is different, and years of overgrowth can make it impossible to know exactly where the living tissue ends until the beak is properly reshaped.
